  • Moissanites are originally found in meteors and because of this almost all moissanites on the market are lad grown. These gemstones are composed of silicon carbide, making them extreme similar to diamonds which are made of carbon.

Prized for their exceptional brilliance, durability, and ethical sourcing. They offer the luminous sparkle of diamonds at a more accessible price, making them ideal for both everyday wear and statement pieces.

    Hardness:

    • Mohs scale: 9.25 (very durable for daily wear)

For reference Emeralds are a 7.5-8.

    • Vickers hardness: approximately 2,600–3,000 HV

    Optical properties:

    • Fire (dispersion): about 0.104 (greater fire than diamond, producing vivid rainbow flashes)

    • Brilliance (refractive index): 2.65–2.69 (high refractive index yields intense white sparkle)

      Diamonds refractive index is 2.42.

  • Care instructions for Moissanites and 925 Sterling Silver Rings and Jewellery

We’re straightforward and here to help. Follow these clear, practical care steps to keep your moissanite stones brilliant and your 925 sterling silver bright for years.

    Moissanite Care

    • Clean regularly: Use warm water, a mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Gently brush around the stone and setting, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

    • Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not expose moissanite to bleach, chlorine, acetone, or other strong household cleaners. These can dull metal settings and damage finishes.

    • Ultrasonic and steam cleaners: Moissanite is durable and usually safe in ultrasonic and steam cleaners, but check the setting first. If the setting has fragile or heavily included components (or glued elements), avoid these machines.

    • Remove during rough activities: Take off rings when doing heavy gardening, construction, sports, or manual labor to prevent knocks and abrasion to the setting.

    • Store carefully: Keep moissanite pieces separately in soft pouches or lined compartments to avoid scratching other jewelry. Although moissanite is hard, it can still scratch softer gemstones and metals.

    • Professional checkups: Have prongs and settings inspected by a trusted jeweller at least once a year to ensure stones remain secure.

    925 Sterling Silver Care

    • Prevent tarnish: Sterling silver tarnishes with exposure to air, sweat, and chemicals. Store pieces in anti-tarnish pouches or in an airtight container when not worn.

    • Regular cleaning: Wipe silver with a soft polishing cloth after wearing to remove oils and sweat. For more thorough cleaning, use a mild soap and warm water solution, rinse, and dry immediately with a soft cloth.

    • Avoid perfumes and cosmetics: Put on silver jewellery after applying lotions, perfumes, or hairsprays to minimize chemical contact that accelerates tarnishing.

    • Use silver polish when needed: For heavier tarnish, use a quality silver polish or a paste specifically for 925 sterling silver. Follow product instructions and avoid abrasive polishes that can remove finishes.

    • Care with plated silver: If your item is silver-plated, avoid frequent polishing and abrasive cleaners—these can wear away the plating. Gentle soap and a soft cloth are best.

    • Professional maintenance: For intricate pieces or those with gemstone settings (including moissanite), have a jeweller professionally clean and inspect settings periodically.

    What to avoid

    • Chlorinated pools, hot tubs, and household bleach.

    • Harsh abrasives and strong chemical cleaners.

    • Wearing during strenuous or abrasive activities.

    • Storing silver unprotected in humid places.
